Book cheap flights: best timing and money-saving tips
When to book, which airports to compare, baggage and hidden fees — the complete flight savings guide.
Book early — stay flexible
For popular routes (e.g. Germany–Turkey, Spain), booking 2–4 months ahead often pays off. Last-minute is rarely cheaper in peak season.
Flexible dates (+/− 3 days) and alternative airports can save hundreds of euros.
Tuesday and Wednesday are often cheaper than Friday and Sunday — departure time matters too.
Direct vs. connecting flights
Connections are often cheaper but take longer and carry delay risk. For families with luggage, direct can be better overall.
Compare total price including baggage and seats — low-cost carriers add fees quickly.
Watch minimum connection time — under 90 minutes at a large hub is risky.
Baggage and extras
Ryanair, easyJet etc.: often only small hand luggage included. Checked bags and seats cost extra — add to total price.
Legacy airlines often include one checked bag — then the “more expensive” flight can be cheaper overall.
Watch prices
Use a flight comparison rather than one airline only — prices change daily.
Price alerts help; book when the fare drops below your target.
Incognito mode changes little — date, load factor and booking timing matter most.
Book via comparison
VertragSpar travel comparison bundles flights, hotels and packages — one click to the provider, transparent prices.
After booking: check confirmation and ticket number; online check-in 24–48 h before departure saves queues.
