What you should know

1

Two prices matter — together

You pay a fixed monthly base fee plus a price for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) you use. Always look at both, not just one of them.

Example: A flat for two people uses roughly 2,500 kWh per year — start your comparison with that figure. A low kWh price helps little if the base fee is high.

2

Switch yearly = use the new-customer bonus

Many tariffs offer a bonus in year one. The smart move: switch every year and take the bonus again — you stay in the cheaper range long term.

Example: Set a reminder 11 months after signing — compare in time before the ongoing price without bonus kicks in.

3

Contract length as flexibility, not a trap

12 months minimum with a short notice period gives you planning security and freedom to switch when the next good offer appears.

Example: After the minimum term many plans cancel monthly — ideal if you compare anew each year.

4

Gas: same logic, separate contract

If you receive your own gas bill (e.g. gas floor heating), you can switch gas providers just like electricity — base fee and unit price apply here too. First check whether the contract is in your name or paid via the landlord's service charges.

Example: Use the Gas tab to compare — a flat with gas heating uses roughly 8,000–12,000 kWh per year.

Which plan suits you?

Quick orientation — then compare for real.

  • You want maximum savings

Switch yearly and take the new-customer bonus — 12-month terms are enough.

  • You want peace of mind longer

Choose a longer price guarantee — still note the end date.

  • You want green power

Look for real green electricity with certificates — often only slightly more.

  • You have your own gas contract

Compare in the Gas tab — same rules as electricity, often hundreds of euros in savings.
